Balance Perturbations as a Measurement Tool for Trunk Impairment in Cross-Country Sit Skiing

In cross-country sit-skiing, the trunk plays a crucial role in propulsion generation and balance maintenance. Trunk stability is evaluated by automatic responses to unpredictable perturbations; however, electromyography is challenging. The aim of this study was to identify a measure to group sit-skiers according to their ability to control the trunk. Objectives: To determine the effects of a shoulder resistance training programme on isokinetic and isometric strength, body composition, pain and functionality in paraplegic subjects. The effect of arm-crank exercise training on power output, spirometric and cardiac function and level of autonomy in persons with tetraplegia

Studies on the effects of exercise training in persons with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) are scarce. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an 8-week stationary arm-crank exercise (ACE) training programme on the level of autonomy, exercise performance, pulmonary functional parameters and resting heart rate variability (HRV) in persons with CSCI. Complex regional pain syndrome: evidence for warm and cold subtypes in a large prospective clinical sample.

Limited research suggests that there may be Warm complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and Cold CRPS subtypes, with inflammatory mechanisms contributing most strongly to the former. This study for the first time used an unbiased statistical pattern recognition technique to evaluate whether distinct Warm vs Cold CRPS subtypes can be discerned in the clinical population. Objetivos: Determinar el efecto de un programa de entrenamiento de pedaleo de brazos (PB) estacionario, sobre el sistema cardiorrespiratorio de personas con tetraplejia. Metodo: Se estudiaron 11 participantes con tetraplejia por lesion medular (LM) de origen traumatico a niveles entre C4 y C6. Se midieron variables espirometricas (VC, FVC y MVV) y de Variabilidad de la Frecuencia Cardiaca VFC (HR, STDHR, RMSSD, LF, HF y HRVPOWER), antes y despues de 8 semanas de entrenamiento.
